i wanna be where the people are 🧜🏾♀️
Disney released the new teaser trailer for the Little Mermaid, and the internet is all over it. Grammy nominated-singer and actress, Halle Bailey, will take on the part of Ariel. Halle will be the second black Disney princess in the studio’s history, and audiences are loving it. The reactions from black women and girls in the past several days show how much representation on the big screen matters. The excitement from little girls to see a princess that looks like them is unmatched. The teaser trailer, released on Friday at Disney’s D23 Expo, has accumulated over 100 million global views in just a few days. The trailer earned its place as Reddit’s #1 trending topic on Friday, and the #1 trending video in the movie section on YouTube. It’s sparking a lot of conversation. There has also been a trend of moms filming their kids’ reactions to the trailer you can watch here. I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Women in Web3 👩🏻💻

Amber Park is a visual artist, art director, music video director, and much more. Her work ranges from immersive content for Apple Music, Solana, Verizon, Vevo and Vogue as well as collaborating with fashion brands, including Mowalola and Terminal 27. She has directed music videos for artists like Olivia O’brien, Madison Beer and Sabrina Carpenter, including one of the biggest hits on Sabrina’s new album Because I Liked a Boy. She started her work in the Web3 space a few years ago, with the intention of cultivating inclusivity and a sense of community in the male-dominated industry.
She created her first NFT collection titled I Like You, You’re Weird. In an interview with Hypebae, Park says the “weird” part of the project is rooted in her memories of being called a “weirdo” growing up, and the realization of how much bullying takes place on social media for those that are different. With this project, Park “wanted to champion and celebrate our differences.” ILYYW is a psychedelic-styled NFT collection, inspired by the cartoons Adventure Time and Rick and Morty. Park describes it as “a cast of psychedelic, wild weirdos.” The collection sold out in 6 minutes and earned almost $3M in revenue. Park has her own metrics for measuring success, and says, “The greatest utility to me is not necessarily defined by dollar value, but by how you can bring people together to work towards a common mission or goal to actually disrupt and enact change.”
Park’s latest creative venture is PLAY! POP! GO!, a project that will give NFT holders access to streetwear, novelty goods, and IRL pop up experiences. The brand leans into the idea of an angsty and rebellious youth, with bright colors and a playful imaginatory nature. Park continues to push boundaries in Web3 and holds close to her vision of cultivating a creative community.
Amber Park seems to be making her own rules and leading the charge of artistic visionaries in the Web3 space. The fact that her true goal is to make Web3 a more inclusive place for women and minority creators, is so admirable. Artists like Amber Park who are emerging as leaders in the Web3 space, give us hope for the Web3 future.
spooky season is upon us… 😈
The D23 Expo also brought us the new trailer for Hocus Pocus 2. Yep, the gang is getting back together - Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will return as the Sanderson sisters in Disney’s cult classic. You don’t have to wait too long for this one, it’ll be in theaters in the US on September 30th, just in time for the Fall/Halloween-obsessed who started buying pumpkins September 1st… we all know the type!
Los Espookys - SNL’s Fred Armisen is one of the creators of this goofy horror comedy series. It’s about a group of friends joining together as The Espookys, who get hired to create spooky scenarios for their clients. It’s over the top silly and funny, just what you’d expect to come from the mind of an SNL veteran.
here’s your wholesome weekend activity 🖼
Saturday September 17 is free museum day in the US, you can find a participating museum here. Museum visits never felt fun on a school field trip, but now as an adult? Sign me up! I love a quiet place with AC and beautiful art, especially when it’s free.
lost in an internet rabbit hole? Tefi will lead the way 🕵🏻♀️
Tefi Pessoa has built a community of 1.5M supporters on TikTok as hellotefi. Sometimes she’s giving big sister life advice, other times she’s sharing wild and embarrassing stories from her own experiences, but my favorite Tefi content are her deep dives on pop culture stories. She will go into intense detail on a celebrity couple, telling us everything we never needed to but obviously wanted to know about their ups and downs and ultimate demise. She’ll get into a 17 part series if she has to. Most recently, she’s gotten on the bandwagon of the Don’t Worry Darling drama. Some of my favorites? Her series on Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and her series on hometown scandals.
Until next week!-Juliette
