Probably Nothing launched something 🎶
Web3 media group Probably Nothing and Warner Music have announced the launch of a new record label, Probably a Label. Musicians can acquire an NFT Label Pass that will give them access to an incubator to bring their creations to life, as well as a new platform to release their music. This label aims to redefine ownership in the music industry by helping artists develop and promote their work, without the traditional label contract. Blockchain technology is great for creators because of the way it can authenticate ownership of your work. NFT’s could solve a lot of problems about credit and ownership in the music industry, in the same way it has for digital artists, and it feels like we’re just seeing the beginning of how they will transform it.
Women in Web3 👩🏻💻

Variety
Ppl Pleasr (aka Emily Yang) is a digital artist and a trailblazer in the NFT world who calls herself a “high quality meme generator.” Ppl Pleasr used to do VFX for films (ever heard of Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman or Star Trek Beyond?) and commercials, as well as Blizzard game cinematics. She first gained recognition in Web3 for her digital animations and went viral in March 2021 with an animated ad for an Ethereum exchange provider called Uniswap. The animation is titled x*y=k. The piece represents the elements of De-Fi (decentralized finance) and Uniswap’s bond curve. Each element of the animation has a purpose and a meaning. This animation really resonated with the crypto community, so when it was minted as an NFT, bids were flying high at the auction.
This caused the inception of PleasrDAO - a group of NFT investors who pool their coins to buy NFT’s. The DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) came together when Leighton Cusack posted on Twitter asking if anyone wanted to go in together on the x*y=k NFT. Turns out some people did, and in 12 hours they pooled together 465 ETH (~$800K at the time), to purchase Ppl Pleasr’s incredible animation. And the best part? Ppl Pleasr donated 100% of the revenue to AAPI charities, and has inspired PleasrDAO to always include a charitable component in their NFT acquisitions. Since its inception in March 2021, PleasrDAO has made headlines for major NFT purchases like the original Doge meme picture (purchased for $4M and now worth approx $225M), the unreleased Wu-Tang Clan album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin,” Ed Snowden’s NFT and much more. Founder Leighton Cusack has said they are essentially building a museum on the blockchain that you can view here. Ppl Pleasr became an honorary member of the DAO - I mean, she inspired its creation!
So what do we love most about Ppl Pleasr? The ethos of her approach to NFTs and Web3. She has said that making a social impact is at the core of everything she does. She is led by the belief that having your own financial success alone isn’t something to be proud of, but helping others gain wealth as well. This is why she has embraced the fractional ownership of NFT’s through PleasrDAO. And overall, she has said she wants to bring art to the world that she has had fun creating. Imagine if we all approached our careers this way?
movies @ home 📺
Thoroughbreds - It’s been a minute since I’ve recommended a real f-ed up thriller movie. But no worries, I’m back with a good one… This one is about a teenage girl who plots to murder her stepfather with her friend.
The King of Staten Island - Loverboy Pete Davidson essentially plays his younger self in this heartwarming flick. It’s about a guy in his early twenties living in Staten Island trying to get his life together. It’s very sweet and will make you fall more in love with Pete, if that’s even possible.
movies not @ home 🍿
Yes, movie theaters still exist and lots of people still go to them! (mainly for the popcorn that just doesn’t taste quite as good anywhere else). September 3rd is National Cinema Day in the US - that means movie theaters will be offering tickets for just $3. Here’s what’s playing right now. What should you go see? Nope is freaky mystery that will leave you diving into a deep Reddit hole on the drive home, trying to piece together what exactly you just saw. Bullet Train is pretty good too - all star cast of assassins on a fast train. And you can’t go wrong with Brad Pitt.
calling all animal lovers 🐶
Don’t Eat the Homies is a clothing brand that wants to spread compassion for our furry and fluffy homies - animals of course. They have some pretty cool shirts, sweats, hats etc. that say things like “don’t eat the homies,” “be kind to animals,” all that good stuff. It’s also a conversation starter, whenever I wear my Don’t Eat the Homies shirt every vegetarian in a 5 mile radius comes to say hello.
a little funk, a little R&B 🌴
Leven Kali is an incredible artist who has written a lot of songs you’ve probably already heard of, but the real gems are his own hits. His style is R&B with a little funk and a little soul. They have that California cool feeling, like driving down the PCH in a vintage car with the top down. You’ll love his latest single Just a Feeling. A personal favorite is Joy. If you want to check out some of the projects he’s collaborated on, he has a writing credit and is a featured artist on Playboi Carti’s 2017 album Playboy Carti, was a writer on Drake’s More Life album, and has writing and producing credits on Beyoncé’s Renaissance.
Until next week!-Juliette
