this is how real music makes you feel 💙
This video of a security guard getting in his feels at a Kendrick Lamar show has been circling the internet. Kendrick responded saying this is how he wants people to relate to his music, he wants to give them a moment they feel attached to.
new shows with guaranteed obsession 📺
The Resort came out last week on Peacock. A comedy thriller (probably my favorite genre) that tells the story of a couple who go on vacation only to become engulfed in the mystery of an unsolved murder at the hotel from 15 years ago. It’s starring William Jackson Harper, the guy from Midsommar and The Good Place, and Cristin Milioti who’s in Fargo and Wolf of Wall Street.
Santa Evita on Hulu might seem like a weird choice but stay with me. It’s the can’t-look-away-but-I’m-so-creeped-out type of show. The mini series tells a story based on the real events of the First Lady of Argentina who passed away in 1952 but wasn’t buried for decades… It’s in Spanish but just power through with subtitles. Or I suppose you can always switch to dubbing if that’s your thing.
And if you haven’t watched The Bear on Hulu yet… seriously you should!
movie recs 🎬
We got you covered this week with a couple movie recommendations. It's rough out there these days, with way too many choices on Netflix, and then there's Hulu and all that other shit and before you know it you've been scrolling for so long you're kind of over it.
Blow the Man Down on Prime Video. Mary Beth & Priscilla Connolly live in a little fishing town with a big fisherman problem. When Mary Beth murders a fisherman who pushes her too far, the sisters will do anything to conceal their crime. In the process of their cover up, they discover who's really pulling the puppet strings in their town. And SHE is a force to be reckoned with. This movie is a funny and thrilling female revenge fantasy.
Yes, God, Yes. Okay this one is very entertaining and pretty fuckin weird in the best way. Starring Stranger Things' Natalia Dyer, this coming of age film follows a girl in high school discovering her "lust" shall we say? All while on a repressed religious retreat learning about "purity." And yes, they make all those horny moments just as cringey as we remember they were at that age. Now re-read the title... sounds a little different in your head this time, doesn't it?
fake it til you make it - body language edition 💪🏽
We wanted to share this life cheat code we found for those moments you start to feel overwhelmed with feelings like intimidation, fear or nervousness. It sounds nuts but you can actually reduce feelings of stress by holding a certain poses for two minutes. Watch this TED talk and it will explain everything.
Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, found evidence that mimicking the body language we typically exhibit when we feel powerful - a widened stance, puffing out our chests, even putting our feet up on a desk - can actually make us feel more confident and powerful in the moment. Studies show that powerful leaders have higher levels of testosterone and lower levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in their bodies. Mimicking these "power poses" can actually influence the way you are feeling by lowering your cortisol and increasing your testosterone. Our body language can alter the make up of hormones inside of us. It almost sounds too easy right? Try it out. Next time you feel yourself getting nervous, maybe you have to speak up in a big meeting or talk to someone you feel intimidated by, hold a power-pose for 2 minutes ahead of time. Watch how you start to feel different...

the Marilyn Monroe effect 👩🏼
The new trailer for Blonde, the Netflix Marilyn Monroe biopic, dropped this week. Ana de Armas will portray the legendary bombshell in a sultry black and white re-telling of her life story. Marilyn Monroe knew a thing or two about using body language to look and feel a type of way that literally made people stop in their tracks. This has been coined as the "The Marilyn Monroe effect." The phrase came out of a story told by Amy Greene, the wife of Marilyn's personal photographer, who spent a lot of time with Marilyn. She and the iconic actress were walking in New York City one day, keeping a low profile in plain clothing. Marilyn suddenly turned to her and said "do you want to see me become her?" And a moment later, she was turning heads, cars were slowing down as people began to recognize Marilyn. While a minute earlier, she had been walking by unnoticed. What changed? She turned on that Marilyn Monroe magic, embodying that superstar side of herself, and everything changed. She was tapping into the charismatic power she had within her. This woman had the energy of a Siren Girl for sure.
Thanks for reading! Until next week Siren Girls!
