The Siren Girls

hello Siren Girls! welcome to this week's Sirens Call! we've got a lot to talk about...

me every single weekday morning 😴

you’re about to step up your photo game 📸

This company Analog Camera will make your insta dreams come true. There’s something about the quality of a film photo that just makes it feel, I don’t know… like a real moment? I can’t quite put my finger on it. But we all know it looks wayy better than an iphone pic. You can order a disposable camera from Analog for around $30 and they will develop the photos and email them to you at no additional fee. Or if you already have a roll of film ready to go, you can just mail it to them and they’ll develop it for under $18. Before I found Analog, I was spending $60 at a random photo development shop just for half of the film to get ruined. This is what we all need!

stuff happening this week 👀

Comic-Con 2022 starts today in San Diego, one of the biggest weeks for our fanboys and girls. What lies in store this year in Hall H? There will be a panel on House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel. George R. R. Martin will give us the tea, joined by the majority of the Targaryens. Keanu Reeves will make an appearance to tell us about his BRZRKR movie (yes that’s the title, not my cat walking across the keyboard). And he might drop a few hints about the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4 … yes, that is indeed a 4! Disney+ will be showing sneak peeks of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. And in the DC Universe, Dwayne Johnson and Zachary Levi will get on a panel to talk Black Adam and Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods. Plus, we’ll get an update on the DC League of Super Pets. And for those that think they’re too grown up for comics, there will be a panel on AppleTV's Severance.

i love life, thank you 💜

How do you approach releasing music posthumously? How do friends, family and collaborators properly bring an artist’s work into the world when they are no longer in it? Mac Miller left us too soon, with music he hadn’t yet shared with the world. Circles came out in January of 2020, an album Mac had been working on before his passing. The music was mesmerizing and melancholy at times, it showed a lot of growth from the Pittsburgh kid who released Blue Slide Park all those years ago. Now there are rumors that more Mac Miller music could be coming our way. His 2011 mixtape I Love Life, Thank You, is re-releasing on streaming platforms tonight.

fast fashion 🌪

So we all know that fast fashion is one of the biggest pollutants of our earth right now. The EPA estimates that 11 million tons of textiles are put into landfills every year. And according to Dana Thomas, who wrote Fashionopolis about the world of fast-fashion today, 85 percent of textile waste in the United States goes to landfills or is incinerated. And for what? Are we even aware of what we’re doing? Not enough people understand the harm of buying cheap clothes we know we’ll wear a few times and throw out. Society is telling us we need a new crop top for every night out, every instagram post. It’s bullshit and we have to change the narrative. We wanted to tell you about some clothing lines we found that make their clothes sustainably. How do they do that? Here are the basics to understanding sustainable fashion:

Upcycling - repurposing textile waste or already-made clothing into new garments

Circular Fashion - a “closed loop” approach to fashion, where no waste leaves the production cycle

Whether that means upcycling clothes, where all clothes are made from repurposed second hand clothing or fabric. Or maybe it means zero waste production, or maybe the clothes are made from recycled materials like plastics.

Fanfare is a clothing line by Esther Knight, launched in 2018, that upcycles vintage clothing to make “unique contemporary designs.” I’m obsessed with their jeans.

Zero Waste Daniel takes it to a whole new level, making pieces out of discarded fabric from other brands.

The Girlfriend Collective Athleisure clothes with everything from sports bras to even unitards, made from recycled materials! The materials are post-consumer water bottles, fishing nets retrieved from the seas, fabric scraps, and other waste.

an OG disney princess reimagined 👸

H.E.R. will be playing Belle in a hybrid live action and animated remake of Beauty and the Beast. I think she’s perfect for the role, she gives off that elegance mixed with girl next door type sweetness that reminds me of a Disney princess. And to have H.E.R. singing those songs? Magic. This comes 30 years after the original movie. We love seeing classics remade with modern talent!
